Abstract:

Oxidative stress, produced under diabetes causes various forms of diabetic-tissue damage. In present study, the concentration of antioxidant enzymes were significantly decreased with concomitant increase in lipid peroxidation. Lupeol, a phytoconstituent from Solanum xanthocarpum suppresses the progression of type diabetes mellitus. Lupeol treatment to diabetic rats caused decreases in glycated hemoglobin, serum glucose and nitric oxide with concomitant increase in serum insulin level. Furthermore, treatment increased the antioxidant level with a decrease in the level of thiobarbituric acid-reactive oxygen species.
